Liverpool's Own Lighthouses
Trinity
House has been the authority for building and operating lighthouses around the
coast of England and Wales since Elizabethan times, but when the merchants and
traders of Liverpool decided they needed lighthouses, in the
1760s, they opted
to build and operate their own.
The pages of this web site introduce the early history of Liverpool's lighthouses, but the full story of this port's two hundred year involvement with lighthouses, and the people who lived and worked in them, can be found in our book, Lighthouses of Liverpool Bay, recently published by Tempus.
